More Lies From The Left!

This morning I visited Blogenlust for the first time. Through a link on Memeorandum to his post Cognitive Dissonance Is Dead. The title fits but I do not think the author intended to be referring to himself.

Now I do not know if he is an misinformed nitwit or a liar but it has to be one of the two.

He begins his argument here:

One of the tenets of the administration’s pre-war rhetoric was the mantra that
Saddam Hussein gassed and tortured his own people, which of course he did. But, that fact was always contrasted to the ideals for which we stood, and for which
we would fight to bring to the Iraqi people. Verse

(Note blogenlust states he believes the accusations against Saddam to be true) He then quotes these remarks by the president in Oct. 2002.

"On Saddam Hussein’s orders, opponents have been decapitated, wives and mothers of political opponents have been systematically raped as a method of intimidation, and political prisoners have been forced to watch their own children being tortured.

America believes that all people are entitled to hope and human rights, to the non-negotiable demands of human dignity. People everywhere prefer freedom to slavery; prosperity to squalor; self-government to the rule of terror and torture."

So far so good, but here is where he goes off the track:

The force of the argument was such that even when no weapons of mass destruction were found, and the connections to al Qaeda were discredited, it could still stand on its own as reason enough to continue the fight.

Let’s address this lie first.

Did you ever read the 9/11 report sir? Did you ever read the Senate intelligence committee’s report addressing Saddam’s connections to Al Qaeda sir?

I direct you to conclusions 90 -99 on pages 26 and 27 in the link provided above. here are two of them:

Conclusion 94: The CIA reasonably and objectively assessed in Iraqi Support for Terrorism that the most problematic area of contact between Iraq and al_Qaida were the reports of training in the use of non-conventional weapons, specifically chemical and biological weapons. This if followed by approximately 3 lines of censored info.

Conclusion 95: The CIA’s assessment on safehaven 0 that al-Qaida or associated operatives were present in Baghdad and in northeastern Iraq in an area under Kurdish Control – was reasonable.

Have you ever heard of Abu Musab Al Zarqawi Sir?

You do know he traveled freely between Iraq and terrorist camps in Afghanistan long before the invasion of Iraq right?

Have you ever read this book by chance?

The Connections between Saddam and Al Qaeda are WELL DOCUMENTED. Maybe you believe an Abu Sayyaf terrorist called an Iraqi Intelligent in the Philippines shortly after detonating a bomb killing US Marines to go bowling that evening. That of course would make you a fool or a liar. To which do you plead sir?

Blogenlust goes on:

So, it was surprising to learn that even after the torturous regime of Saddam
Hussein had been disposed, we continued to torture Iraqis.

Now with all due respect Mr. Blogenlust please, please tell me you are able to make a distinction between the dictator Saddam ordering the decapitation, rape, and torture of children of his political opponents, and a small number of low level military personnel who humiliate their prisoners by forcing them to wear women’s clothing, or lay nude in a pile, or even intimidate them with dogs?

Or do you actually believe that this behavior is widespread in our military?

This is one of the most ludicrous charges of leftist propogandists. Are you one of them? or are you what they like to call a useful idiot?

Or hopefully you believe as I and most Americans do that all though these were no doubt not the only infractions conducted by US. military personnel they are also no doubt isolated incidents.

I would sincerely appreciate an answer to this question.

Even if these soldiers were under the direct order of the president (and I do not believe nor accept that ever occurred) there is no comparison between the two. NONE.

Do we agree sir?

Do you acknowledge that the soldiers found to have committed these acts have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law?

And to answer your final question sir:

How we can continue to believe we’re the world’s moral watchdog, while keeping a
blindeye to the documented torture and abuse we commit is beyond my comprehension.

It is beyond your comprehenstion because for some unexplainable reason you do not seem to understand that when we as a society find people who have commited these kinds of acts they are prosecuted and convicted and sent to prison for their actions. This would include every officer in the military and every politician in our government right up to the president of the United States. They are not elevated as heroes or allowed to appoint themselves as leaders (see Abu Mussab Al Zarqawi cutting off the head of Nicholas Berg for example).
